The Drama Club has decided to have a school-wide contest to determine a new name! This contest is open to students, faculty, and staff. The winner will receive the prestige of naming the drama group and $25. The forms and drop-off box will be in the library. This contest will run from November 13th to next Thursday, November 20th. Hopefully, this will get us a truly dramatic name. Good luck everyone and thank you! Mr. Chuck Connelly mentioned to me that the Year 2008 Town Highway Maps have been completed. There are 79 new maps. New maps were generated only for the towns that reported changes during the 2008 Mileage Certificate process. The maps from the years 2003-2007 are still valid for the towns that did not have changes. The PDF version of these new maps can be accessed through the Mapping Unit website at:

The Field and Forest Club has officially started under the leadership of Mr. Schwaner and Mr. Worthing. The president of the club is Jessica Wood, who informed me of some of the group’s plans. They will be working on developing a fruit orchard to be planted near the greenhouse with possible cafeteria implications, canning and educational study. Recycling efforts will be a major focus, with food composting at the school and every class having a recycling bin. Outdoor activities like hiking, camping and gardening are anticipated, with summer opportunities also being contemplated to provide our students more positive options during this normally unstructured time. Jessica also mentioned working with flexible scheduling of their meetings to allow students involved in other extracurricular activities to participate.

The Scholars Bowl team of Matt Couture, Michelle Rogals, Gwyn Roberts, Mitchell Dundon, Adam Cecil, Sophia Michael, Jon Russell, Jack Connolly, Dakota Folmsbee, Mike Wayne, Garry Brown, Sam Hoenes, Brian Ward, and Emily Turgeon are still competing, and I look forward to posting their results when they are brought to me.

Quite a few of our Band students have earned State accolades this semester. Christy Papandrea made principle chair in the Green Mountain Music District V Wind Ensemble for both flute and piccolo. Christy also made the chorus. Cassie Papandrea made principle chair on alto saxophone for the wind ensemble as well as making the jazz band. The following students made the festival:

  • Morgan Childs-concert band
  • Michael Wayne-concert band
  • Celina Bronson-concert band
  • Sam Hoenes-concert band
  • Garry Brown-concert band
  • Jon Murray-wind ensemble
  • Jake Silver-wind ensemble

The wind ensemble is the more proficient ensemble at the festival.

The following students will be participating in the Northeast Music Festival in Lake Placid next week: Christy Papandrea, Krista Bird, Garry Brown, Morgan Childs, Celina Bronson, Emily Turgeon, Grace Kuehne, Cassie Papandrea, Christian Doran, Jon Murray and Michael Wayne. Best of playing to all our musicians!

Tyler Duczeminski had an amazing experience while competing at the American Rabbit Breeding Association tournament held in Louisville, Kentucky. Tyler told me it was an “incredible experience. The Louisville Slugger factory was really neat. We took a guided tour and saw A-Rods bat; it was sweet. All the balls thrown out at opening day by our presidents are located there. Churchill downs was also great.” At the convention center, Tyler earned “Best Opposite of Breed” against competitors from Greenland, Japan, China, Canada, and many European countries. Tyler also mentioned that “[he] enjoyed meeting the people. It is so crazy with all the people [from all over the world]. You know so many.” One of his goals in the organization is to become a judge.” Tyler plans on going to CSC next year in order to be a State trooper. I look forward to seeing his inevitable success, although hopefully not while showing my license and registration.

Have a great week,

Brett C. Blanchard, Fair Haven Union High School Principal
