After months of preparation our student actors are ready to display their talents to a wider audience. I was fortunate to catch two scenes during Friday’s rehearsal and am looking forward to the full show. It appears it is ‘drama’ week for me with my daughter’s play, Wednesday’s Broadway fieldtrip and our FHU production all occurring within the next five days. If that is all the drama I encounter, it will be a grand week. Advisor Jenna Carlson provided the following release:

Freshman Zak Harvey reported back to me on the successful Crop Walk from this fall. As I did not give any details in an earlier newsletter, I thought it more than worthwhile to include his write-up that he graciously agreed to provide.
On September 28th FHUHS came out to support a local charity event called the Crop Walk. The Crop Walk is an organization in which people walk and donate money to help with worldwide hunger. Nine students attended the charity including Student Council members, athletes and other involved students. Between these students we raised $241. We went to the park after getting a few pictures taken by local newspapers and began our walk. We started at one end of the park, walked to the other end and down Washington Street to Airport Road. After that we made our way to 4th Street, took a left, and made our way to North Main, finishing up at the park. All walkers’ received complimentary ice cream and drinks provided by Stewarts. The walk took approximately 2 hours. All in the community showed great support for this terrific cause.
Ten students from Stafford Technical Center’s Public Safety Services Program recently completed training in the area of “Highway Safety for Emergency Services Personnel” which involves the proper way of positioning emergency vehicles-fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances. This training was conducted by Rob Minter of the Vermont Fire Academy and Chuck Regula, a Rutland City Firefighter. Jon Schaff scored 100% on the final exam. Great work Jon!
The Scholars Bowl team will be going through their second round of regional play at Champlain Valley Union High School on 12/11/08 (weather permitting). The students who will be participating will be Mike Wayne, Michelle Rogals, Sam Hoenes, Garry Brown, Jon Russell and Jon Murray. Wish them luck if you should see them As with many of our students, our faculty/staff are involved in a wide variety of terrific activities that seldom get the recognition they deserve so I am happy to announce that Ms. Beth Carini and her mother Carol won the Ruth Kirchner Memorial Award for outstanding “seasoned” (5 or more years) 4-H leader for Rutland County. They won the award for their work with the 4-H dog program.
The All-State football team has been released and we are pleased to report the following boys earned recognition: Offensive 1st Team: TE Andrew Patch; Offensive 2nd Team: FB Todd Savage; Defensive 1st Team: DB Lucas Cabellero; Defensive 2nd Team: DL Heath Genier.
Student Council will be conducting the Gil Scott Memorial Pet Food Drive. Pet food is need for families and elderly people to maintain their animals. Donations of pet food of any type will be accepted from now until December 19. Please drop off any donations to the front office or to the student council room 213. The Community Service Club is happy to announce that they have collected over 25 items for the Community Sharing Tree! A big thank you to those who have donated!
The winter athletic contests are underway as of last Friday. Congratulations to our girls’ basketball team for their home opening victory. The unofficial report from the wrestling tournament indicated the majority of our athletes went 3-1 which bodes well for the rest of the reason.
Have a great week,
Brett C. Blanchard, Fair Haven Union High School Principal
