Congratulations to the “Break a Leg Society”, FHU’s drama club, for their recent performance “The Mystery at Twicknam Vicarage and other short comedies by David Ives.” It was an interesting subject matter that showcased some excellent acting and a great deal of work. Sophia Michael, President, informs us that in mid-January there are some student-directed plays in the works.

Peer Mediation – Peace in Progress: Mediation allows students to talk face-to-face, uninterrupted so each side of the dispute is heard. Once the problem is defined, solutions are reached and then evaluated. When an agreement is decided upon, both parties sign on it. Peer mediation can be a positive alternative to suspension or detention, can help prevent fights by peacefully solving conflicts, and will help students develop respect and communications skills. Peer mediation is wholly confidential and mediators are unbiased. Mediation referral forms are found throughout the building, or see one of the peer mediators. – Peer Mediation Team

Fair Haven Union High School’s Student Council is sponsoring a Toy Drive for the benefit of Fair Haven Area Concerned. Donations of new toys or cash may be brought in to FHUHS. These toys will be used to brighten a child’s life throughout the year. Please contact Hurley Cavacas, Student Council Advisor, with any questions at 265-4966 ext 229.

Chris Sheldon, our Fashion Design teacher, reported that 41 t-shirt dresses were made for the Mothers without Borders group, thanks to the efforts of our students and staff members. We are proud of their effort and thoughtfulness. It shows our “SLATER” spirit.

There will be a Winter Craft Fair at the high school on December 12th, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. with proceeds going to the Yearbook. If anyone is interested in a vendor space, please contact Diane Flood at 265-4966, Ext. 202. The cost is $20 and you need to furnish your own table. The School Store will also be open that day for any SLATER items you would like to purchase.

Have a great week!

Brett C. Blanchard,
Fair Haven Union High School Principal
