The Science department has announced that they will be holding the annual Science Fair on Thursday, February 11th, from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. There will be approximately 300 projects on display. Please stop by and see what great work our students create.

The Fashion Design I classes completed their semester projects. Quilts, pillows and clothing have been on display in the high school lobby. Community members often donate fabric left over from quilt or craft projects to the Family and Consumer Science department. The nine-patch pillows each student created this fall were made from such fabric. Our thanks for this resource! Later this semester Fashion Design II students will display their finished work.

Foods class students ended their semester with full course meals. Tables were decorated with linens and centerpieces as groups chose a theme for their meals. Calories were delicious and nutritious!

On Saturday, January 30th, the Scholars Bowl team attended the first round of playoffs at Montpelier High School. The team members who attended were Mike Wayne, Garry Brown, Michelle Rogals, Gwyn Roberts, Sam Hoenes, Maria Burt and Abby Rampone. Abby scored 350 points during the tournament and was named MVP every game that FHU played. They won 3 and lost 2. So for the first time in a few years, FHU will be advancing to the second round of playoffs to be held March 20th at Champlain College. All of the teams who placed second and third will be playing a single elimination for the Division II trophy, the Medler Cup. Whoever wins the Medler Cup will play the Division I champ for the State title. A special thank you goes to Matt Couture, Class of 2009, for recording statistics.

All Scholars Bowl team members will be meeting Wednesday, February 3rd. Mr. Allen, the advisor, will be giving out shirts to those members who earned them this year, and at 3:30 they will have their first winter quiz net game on the internet.

The Scholars Bowl team has come a long way in these last four years. This year they started internet competition and placed second in several of the games they participated in. In October they won their first tournament in several years. When they won the Hanover Halloween tournament this year, there were sixteen students who participated and earned their shirts. Way to go Slaters!

Congratulations to senior Justin Felion for notching his 100th match win this past week-end in wrestling. We are very proud of his achievement and continued success.

The Break-a-Leg Society is looking for some items for their upcoming production of “Alice in Wonderland.” If anyone has tea things (tea pots, tea cups, sugar jars, creamer jugs, etc.) that they DO NOT want back and they wouldn’t mind giving the drama club, we would love to have them. Please see Jenna Carlson, our drama advisor.

Congratulations to the drama club for their student-led one-act plays held Friday night. Many people commented what a great job our students did. Their continued talent and dedication is greatly appreciated.

I hope everyone has a great week,

Brett C. Blanchard, Fair Haven Union High School Principal
