Fair Haven Union High School Selects Valedictorian and Salutatorian 2010

alyssadempseysmallFair Haven Union High School’s Valedictorian is Alyssa Dempsey. Alyssa is the daughter of Mr. Matthew Dempsey of Flushing, New York and Ms. Kathy Laramie of Castleton, Vermont. Alyssa has won the UVM Excellence in Writing competition and received the UVM Math Test Best-in- School recognition. She is a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and has been selected by the United States Department of Education as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program. She is currently the Vice President of the National Honor Society. Alyssa is a member of the women’s Soccer team, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams, all of which she has been elected captain. Alyssa and her teammates have received various awards and recognitions at the state and regional level for their hard work and dedication. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Alyssa has a love of travel. She has served as an ambassador with People to People and traveled to China, Spain, Italy and France.


randallettorismallFair Haven Union High School’s Salutatorian is Randall Ettori. Randy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ettori of Castleton, Vermont. Randy is a dedicated student with two main academic interests, Mathematics and Science, which he plans on exploring as an engineering major at the college level. He is currently a member of the National Honor Society. Randy was a member of our highly honored Odyssey of the Mind team which won at the state level the past three years and at the world champion the past two years. His team was the recipient of the Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award at the state level two years ago and at the world finals last year. As a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Randy is in the final stages of earning his Eagle Scout badge. In Randy’s quest to become an Eagle Scout, he led the renovation of an outside courtyard at a local nursing home. In addition, he has been Assistant Senior Patrol Leader all four years of high school. Randy has put in an extensive time volunteering; a total in the range of thirteen hundred hours.

Mr. Bruce and the members of FHUHS’s National Honor Society did a tremendous job introducing this year’s inductees. The 2010 students earning National Honor Society induction were: Kale Auger, Nicholas Book, Alexander Breslen, Kelsey Burhans, Jenna Charron, Julia Dockum, Sarah Forster, Kyle Gearwar, Meghan Hill, Eric Jakubowski, Grace Kuehne, Luke Lendway, Heather Mandigo, Sophia Michael, Rachel Orr, Cassandra Papandrea, Katelyn Phillips, Gwynneth Roberts, Nicholas Stanley, Michael Wayne, and Cassidy Whipple. Congratulations to all current members for continuing to exhibit sustained excellence in a variety of areas.

Freshman Emily Ringquist was recently presented a $250 award from the state Science Fair. Her project entailed the best use of Internet. Congratulations, Emily, on your accomplishment.

Rutland Regional Medical Center recently honored teen hospital volunteers. Volunteers are recognized with regards to hours of service divisible by 100 and those with years of service divisible by 5. Fair Haven Union High School had four students recognized for their achievement: For five years of service and 1000 hours, Molly Noble; for 100 hours of service, Sarah Forster and Brittany Pierce; Molly Spaulding was also recognized for her volunteer service.
