Congratulations to the Girls Track team for another remarkable State Championship. Mr. Ramey will provide details next week.

Christine Morgan, our special education director at Fair Haven Union High School, spent three days in Paris at the end of May as a guest of the Fulbright Commission. This visit was arranged to provide an opportunity to exchange information and best practices in special education with colleagues and counterparts within the French Ministry of Education and the local government officials for the city and department of Paris.

As part of this cultural exchange, Mrs. Morgan met with Mr. Pierre-Francois Gachet, the head of Special Education for the country of France. During this one-on-one meeting, they discussed France’s new legislation for educational inclusion of handicapped students and the challenges and plans for implementation of this law in the public schools. Mr. Gachet was interested in learning how special education works in the United States and the changes and progression of education for the handicapped during the 35 years our legislation has been in place.

Mrs. Morgan also visited the Maison Departmentale des Personnes Hanidcape for Paris, which is the equivalent of a county-wide office for Handicap people in the city/county of Paris. It is here that procedures and plans are created for parents and their handicapped children. Each identified handicapped individual is given a team of medical, social and educational professionals that stays with that individual throughout his/her life. A city café L’Ecole de Parents (the school for Parents) provides a resource center for families in a social atmosphere. The café, operated by the government in Paris, is a place where families are brought together with doctors, counselors, educators and lawyers to learn about the new legislation and the opportunities it can offer to students.

This summer some of our finest actors, writers, and directors will be producing two one-act plays at a festival they call “Three Pandas Boxing”. The plays will be performed at the Bomoseen Grange on Route 30 South in Castleton on July 2nd at 7 PM and July 3rd at 2 PM and 7 PM. It should be noted that children under the age of thirteen should be accompanied by an adult. The first play was written and directed by Meghan Hill and Emily Turgeon, two very talented rising seniors. In addition to writing and directing their play, they will also be performing it along with Sydni Shaddock, Chelsea Montello, Sophia Michael, Dylan Schulte, and Sam Hoenes. The second play was written and directed by Adam Cecil. This will be his last local play before leaving us to study Dramatic Writing at NYU this fall. His play stars Jon Russell and David Atkins, both of whom are also leaving for college in the fall, and current students Kelsey Burhans, Sydni Shaddock, and Erin Irons. Fair Haven Union High School wishes them the best of luck in their endeavor and is proud to see our students take their lessons from this school and apply them in the community.

DVD copies of the 2010 FHU Graduation will be available on Friday, June 18th, at the high school for $5.00. Please call to be sure they are ready then.

Have a great week!

Brett C. Blanchard,
Fair Haven Union High School Principal
