It is fair to say that life has been busy at Fair Haven Union High School the past few weeks. Our seniors have largely decided on the plans for the fall, the girls’ basketball team made their way to Barre and played an exciting game against eventual champion Hartford and spring athletics are underway in a real spring environment. However, the focus of this update is the magnificent artistic talent that has been on display at FHUHS.
Our first annual talent show had a large number of acts with senior Dylan Young earning first place as Best Performer. Dylan wrote and played a classical piece of music that showcased his multiple talents. Plans are for an even larger show next year.
The Break-a-leg Society performed their award winning rendition of Agatha Chrisitie’s The Patient at the One-Act state finals. After earning a top two place in the regional One-Act Festival, the Break-a-leg Society put on two performances at FHUHS before heading to St. Johnsbury for the championship. At the state competition students earned several awards. Syndi Shaddock, Abigail and Katherine Rampone were selected for outstanding acting, Makayla Nakamora for sound design, and the entire group won for historicial accuracy.
Three students auditioned and were accepted into the New England Music Festival. This highly competitive audition saw Grady McIntyre, Celina Bronson, and Abigail Rampone all earn accolades and an opportunity to perform at Killingly High School in Killingly, CT.
FHUHS Winter Carnival was reorganized and updated to account for the lack of snow. This completely student managed event went off beautifully with a wide array of activities, challenges and opportunity for groups and classes to cooperate and compete. Senior Katherine Pouliot, once again, Our Slater News Team has been providing weekly news coverage every Monday with daily updates by freshman weatherman Kevin Richer. The video addition may be found at our website FHUHS.org. Book reviews, club news and student highlights are all covered.
All recycling bins were individually painted to improve our school’s recycling ability. Senior Kaylie-Ann Flannigan organized and led this initiative which has already paid off with making our hallways more artistic and improving return of recycled material.
Have a great week,
Brett C. Blanchard, Principal
