MUSIC FESTIVALS
AUDITION FORMS AND FEES
Students wishing to audition for a music festival need to submit a completed ?ÄúIntent to Audition?Äù form with payment of the appropriate fees by Wed. Sept. 14th. Acquisitions of music and audition preparation are responsibilities of the student. The band director will assist when possible. If a student is accepted to represent FHUHS in a music festival ensemble, the school will pay the festival acceptance/participation fees.

AUDITION ATTIRE
It is strongly recommended that students dress up for their auditions. Men should wear dress pants, shoes, shirt, and a tie. Women should dress comparably. Sneakers and jeans may hurt your audition score since different judges feel differently about audition attire.
FESTIVAL ATTENDANCE
All of the three festivals require that participants attend 100 % of the festival activities. If a student goes home sick or is late to a festival they will not be allowed to participate in the remainder of the festival.
DISTRICT MUSIC FESTIVAL
The District Music Festival involves all schools in the Green Mountain Music District V, which stretches along western Vermont from Bristol to Bennington.
This opportunity is available to any student who is a member of the FHUHS Band.
There is an audition fee (see Appendix C - Festival Audition Form) that must be paid by the student. A specific piece of music must be learned and performed in front of one or two adjudicators ?Äì music teachers who rate the performance. The required solo changes each year. Auditionees will also need to play scales and sight-read a piece of music. The audition occurs in November. School transportation is provided.

Each person who auditions will receive written feedback from the adjudicator. Students who perform well enough during the audition will be invited to participate in an honors ensemble comprised of the top scoring students throughout the district. There is a festival fee for students who are invited to perform in a festival ensemble; FHUHS will pay this second fee.
Accepted students will receive music to practice in advance. The ensemble will rehearse as a group for two days in February or March and perform a concert under the direction of a special guest conductor

PARENT CHAPERONE IS NEEDED TO RIDE ON THE BUS TO AND FROM THE AUDITION!
Mrs. LaPlaca and myself need to adjudicate at the November audition. As a result we cannot chaperone the bus. We need at least one parent volunteer to ride the bus and help keep track of the students during the audition in Proctor. Usually the students are too nervous to present much of a behavior problem. J
ALL-STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL
The All-State Music Festival operates in the same manner as the District Music Festival. The major difference is its scope; All-State involves all schools in the state of Vermont.
This opportunity is available to any student who is a member of the FHUHS Band.
There is an audition fee (see Appendix C - Festival Audition Form) that must be paid by the student. There is also a festival fee for students who are invited to perform in a festival ensemble; FHUHS will pay this second fee. The audition occurs in January, and the festival ensembles gather to rehearse and perform in May.

(It should be noted that the All-State Music Festival begins with a parade. All FHUHS band members will march in this parade. Afterward, students who were invited to participate in one of the honors ensembles will spend the evening with host families and remain at the festival location for the remaining three days of rehearsals and performance.)

Please note that the dates of the All-State Music Festival typically conflict with the administration of several advanced placement exams, and that students participating in the All-State Music Festival are not, under any circumstances, allowed to miss any part of the festival for any reason, including sporting events or academic testing.
NEW ENGLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL
Students who are members of the FHUHS Band or Chorus may audition in December for the New England Music Festival in March. There is an audition fee (see Appendix C - Festival Audition Form) that must be paid by the student. The ?Äúaudition?Äù portion of the festival takes place in December.
The audition is actually a performance for a ?Äúsolo and ensemble festival.?Äù This means that anyone is welcome to listen to you ?Äì the music student ?Äì perform. This is technically not an audition but a performance, but it looks and feels like an audition.
Student performances are scored and the top scoring performers are invited to participate in an honors ensemble, which rehearses for three days and performs a concert during the month of March. There is a festival fee for students who are invited to perform in a festival ensemble; FHUHS will pay this second fee.
It is strongly suggested that students purchase an accompanist for this audition and that they dress formally.
