STUDENT LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
Band is much more than just a class. It is a large organization of which one individual cannot possibly operate all aspects. It should not only represent the band director?Äôs vision and desire, but also the students.
Band student leaders helps keep the organization running smoothly and in a direction that the students want it to run. Student Leadership Positions can be broken down into three categories, elected, volunteer and appointed.

Band President
The President is elected at the beginning of the year and is responsible for aiding in all band functions, representing the students, and leading the way.
Band Vice President
The Vice Presidents job is to aid the president in the presidential responsibilities.
Uniform Managers
¬? Distribute uniforms.
¬? Maintain an accurate binder of uniform parts checked out to students.
¬? Keep the uniform closet neatly organized at all times.
¬? Make sure all uniforms are properly stored and kept clean.
¬? Sort uniforms by number or inventory parts as requested.
¬? Help check in uniforms near the end of the school year.
Music Librarians
¬? Stamp, number, and sort music, as requested by the band director.
¬? Catalogue music.
¬? Know how to operate the school?Äôs copy machines.
¬? Maintain an inventory of music issued to band members and assist the director in the collection of music.
¬? Help collect music following performances.
¬? Return loose library music to the proper folders.
Section Leader
I will select a leader for each section based on student?Äôs ability to play the instrument and ability to lead. In some cases I may select two section leaders but I will try to avoid that situation. If a student has been selected to as section leader but they do not want the position, they should make that clear to me. Responsibilities are as follows:
¬? Pass out music
¬? Rehearse the section
¬? Represent the section
¬? Learn to play all music flawlessly.
¬? Organize extra rehearsals as needed (full section, small group, or individual tutoring).
¬? Organize special section activities (social gatherings, etc.)
Drum Major
¬? Lead the marching band using vocal and whistle commands.
¬? Properly demonstrate marching techniques.
¬? Carry a mace
