CHORUS / THEORY
GOAL: TO ASSIST MY STUDENTS IN BECOMING PROFICIENT IN A VARIETY OF MUSICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE and TO ALWAYS STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE.
GRADING SYSTEM?ĶChorus/Theory
- Meetings: Three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
- Credit: .50 for the year.
- Grades: Numerical (transformed to letter) given each marking period.
Focus: Chorus class 60% of Grade (Tuesday, Wednesday)
¬? 60 points per marking period can be earned as follows.
ASSESSMENT METHOD- INSTRUCTOR
Preparedness (8 points)
- 2 points Student will be on time for class and remain until bell dismissal. (No food or drink allowed)
- 2 points Student will seat themselves promptly in assigned area with their music folder.
- 2 points Student will organize music according to written board instructions.
- 2 points Student will assume correct posture to include feet on floor at all times during warm-ups; sight- reading; and clapping rhythms.always striving to improve their skills.
Attitude (8 points)(NMS-7)- Student Self-Evaluation Form
- Student will participate in the rehearsal with a positive attitude and appropriate focus.
- Periodically, at the conclusion of the class on Thursday, three-day students will fill out the Music Dept. Student Self-Evaluation Form and submit before departing class. Example enclosed.
Musicianship (4 points)
- 2 points Participate in all Tuesday sight-reading classroom skills. (NMS-5)
- 2 points Student will work to meet the vocal requirements of the day to the best of their ability.
Additional Requirements (10 points)
Attend with positive participation Four Full Chorus Gym Rehearsals.
- Check posted seating chart located outside Chorus room and outside cafeteria BEFORE the first gym rehearsal.
- Upon entering gym, sign attendance sheets.
- Prepared with a music folder.
- Sitting in correct voice section and assigned row.
- Listening to directions.
- Cooperation: Remain on Task
- Assuming responsibility to read all posted student information.
Two Community Chorus Concert Performances (Dec., May) 30 % of Grade
¬? 30 points per marking period can be earned as follows.
Assessment Method:
Performance: Participating in the Two Public Performances. (NMS- 1, 2)
###Written Documents:### - Following each Concert Performance, students will submit a written Reflection paper focusing on: 1.Sharing your thoughts on your experience in Chorus: A.Class?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ.B. Gym Rehearsals?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?Ķ?ĶC.Chorus Concert 2. Students will also choose one of the performed music selections which held the most meaning for you and write a paragraph explaining your reasons. (NMS-7)
Concert Participation is required to receive credit. If a student is absent from the concert, a written legal parent excuse is required. There are no written January (Mid-year) or June (Final) exams.
Focus: Theory: (Thursday) 40% of Grade
- Definition-Dealing with knowledge of music principles and methods rather than its practice.
- 40 points per marking period can be earned as follows:
Assessment Method: (NMS-6, 7,8,9)
- 10 points Monthly reading reports using Music Alive Magazines and received by the due date. (Last Thursday of each month). Handwritten.
- Late report penalty: Two points deducted for each late day. Late days include Monday and Friday as well as Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday.
- 4 points Worksheets done in class and turned in by end of the period. ¬? 10 points Choral Music Reflection sheets. One per semester. . ¬? 2 points Taking your turn in class to read aloud Music Alive articles. ¬? 2 points Standing up in front of class and reading your monthly Music Articles aloud. ¬? 2 points Pencils used in theory class at all times, ¬? 5 points Student will do scheduled assigned theory book instruction with instructor and group level. ¬? 5 points Complete scheduled Theory tests and when necessary make corrections.
Chorus/Wednesday
Grading System - Meetings: One day per week (Wednesday from Study Hall or Band or A Science Lab) - Credit: .25 for the year. Grades: Numerical (transformed to letter) given each marking period.
