Library Media Center Information

The Library Media Center is the research center for the school. It contains books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and a variety of electronic resources. It is open almost every school day from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. When possible, ample notice is given if the library needs to be closed earlier on a particular day.

The card catalog is automated and can be accessed from any network computer. This powerful tool allows you to search by title, author, subject, series, call number, or keyword. You can also limit your search to certain types of materials (films, recordings, e.g.) or to only those materials published during a certain year or range of years. If you have never used this kind of research tool before you may need to consult someone on the library staff.

It should be noted that all circulation (checking out of materials) is done electronically. When you want to check an item out, bring it to the front desk and a librarian will scan the item’s barcode into your patron library account.

Through the computer network you can also access the Vermont Online Library, which is a very extensive, full-text periodicals database made available to schools and public libraries throughout Vermont by the Vermont Department of Libraries. Click on the “Journals Database” icon in Novell-Delivered Applications to use this resource. The Vermont Online Library can also be accessed from home computers with a password you can get from one of the librarians.

The Internet is available on network computers, including those in the library. You must contact the computer coordinator and agree to abide by the school’s rules for Internet use (Acceptable Use Policy) before being allowed to use this resource.
