AFTER SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICES
After school library use of available resources and The Homework Success Program take place in the library from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of the first and fourth Tuesday of the month due to faculty and technology meetings (This is subject to change without advance notice).
The library will be closed after school until 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday February 9th.
This program offers the students yet another opportunity for success here at FHUHS. Students may choose to come and use the available library resources without recommendation or a teacher may refer them. If students come in on their own, they may arrive and leave at any time. If a teacher refers them, students should arrive soon after the 3 o’clock bell and may leave when their assignment(s) are completed. A FHUHS librarian is available during this time. Also please note that this is not a CLUB! Students are not being asked to join another club. They are simply being invited to use this available time, space and the resources as needed.
What is the student’s role?
- Ideally, s/he will choose to participate. (Remember this is completely voluntary on the part of the student.)
- Sign in upon arrival; sign out when leaving.
- Give the referral sheet from teacher to the Homework Success Program coordinator, if applicable.
- Complete assignment/s.
- Receive help as needed and when possible.
- Receive the referral sheet, signed and dated with comments from the Homework Success Program coordinator; attach the completed homework assignments to it.
- Next day-give work to appropriate teacher.
What is the librarian’s/program coordinator’s role?
- Communicate information about the Homework Success Program to administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students.
- Give a referral sheet template to teachers to make multiple copies for their use (also post on Teacher Share).
- Give teachers a sheet advertising the program to students to be displayed in classrooms.
- Take attendance and supervise the group.
- An attendance book is kept in case you ever want to follow-up on your student or child.
- Help the student/s in any way needed, when possible, and if asked.
- Note that the work is not corrected by the librarian. It is the student’s homework.
- Obtain teacher’s referral sheet, if applicable, from the student.
- Sign, date, and make comments on the referral sheet and return it to the student when work is completed and before the student leaves that homework session.
- Provide snacks during the allotted program time.
- Be prepared to discuss with parents and/or teachers when asked how the student worked and participated.
The librarian/program coordinator is available to help anyone with any of the available library services and resources at any time.
We encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity. It is one of the best ways of ensuring good grades–no more zeros for not handing in homework assignments!
