COMING EVENTS

After School Book Talks

Our fifth after school book talk was held on Thursday, February 25th. We shared six different books that we had read as individuals during the month of February. Titles included Twilight, The Giver, Xenophen’s Hellenika, IraquiGirl: Diary of a Teenage Girl in Iraq and The Art of Living in Peace: Towards a New Peace Consciousness. Each reader gave a great review of his/her book/s. Thank you for sharing. We hope you will encourage others to join us on Tuesday, March 30th at 4:00 p.m. in FHUHS Library for our next talk facilitated by Mrs. Burlette.

We hope to see even more students and adults join us as time goes on this school year. It is a very relaxed setting. Each participant just informally shares the book/s that he/she has read during the month/s.

We also have decided as a group that we will alternate the day of the week that we meet. This will help those who are involved in other after school activities or work to join us on certain months when the day works for them.

You students are the ones who can successfully encourage your friends to get hooked on reading. Let them know how much fun it is to share and listen to some great stories. There are no requirements.

Is this for you? Consider the following

-If you have read some great books that you want to share with others, these book talks are for you.

-If you have read just one book that you are excited about and want others to know about, these book talks are for you.

-Maybe you would just like to come in and check us out. If you don’t like to read that much or maybe not at all, these book talks are definitely for you.

-or…Maybe you are a good listener and prefer to just come to listen to what others have read. These book talks are for you.

Again, please remember that there is nothing intimidating about this group. In fact the group is usually different each month with a couple of regulars. Mr. Allen is a regular adult participant and he reads very interesting books and gives a great book talk.

Watch for the Book Talk signs around the building and listen to the daily Announcements for a reminder.
